If someone tells you that you suck or you’re bad for doing something

Hi! Just a friendly reminder.

If someone tells you that you suck or you’re bad for doing something, they are shaming you. That’s not cool!

If someone criticizes an industry, institution, product that you use, something else you take part in, or otherwise shares FACTUAL DATA that you just don’t like, and you FEEL SHAME from it, THATS ON YOU.

If I share facts about alcohol – for example, that there is no safe amount of alcohol for your heart, based on scientific data, and you feel bad about your drinking, that’s on you. Not me. (And I’ve been there!)

If I share facts and my experience about an industry that has a 99 percent failure rate, and you feel shame because you’re in that industry, that’s on you, not me. (And I’ve been there too!)

I am a scientist. I share vetted facts. I am also a human who shares my unique experience.

Not everything is for you. Feel shame? Have personal agency and scroll on. Or unfollow, I don’t care.

But I do suggest you lean into that shame. Ask yourself why you feel it. Again, that’s on you… not me👍
