Actually, babies’ heads aren’t a hard, solid thing that we have to birth, but 6 separate bones that move and overlap to help them wiggle their way out! No only that, but in late pregnancy you have a huge surge in a hormone called ‘relaxin’ that loosens the ligaments joining the three separate bones of your pelvis (hence the late pregnancy ‘waddle’) and softens and stretches the skin, muscles and tissues that your baby passes in labour too; enabling your baby and your body to work together in perfect harmony to facilitate birth! Not magic, just nature!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You might see ‘moulding’ on your baby’s head at birth or even a ‘cone’ shape like in the picture. It settles back to a ‘normal’ shape within around 24 hours, but actually your baby’s skull bones don’t fuse together full for around 2 years! So you can feel very confident that both you and your baby were DESIGNED navigate the journey of birth!

Anyone else’s baby born with a bit of a misshapen head?
